Description

A bright orange anemonefish with a single narrow white bar behind the eye and black pelvic and anal fins, which give it the name 'blackfoot'. It lives in small family groups in a single host anemone, usually the magnificent sea anemone. Like other anemonefish it is a sequential hermaphrodite: the dominant fish is female, the next largest the breeding male. It feeds on zooplankton and algae close to its anemone.

In the Maldives

A near-endemic: found only in the Maldives, Sri Lanka and the Lakshadweep, so it is one of the signature fish of Maldivian reefs. Almost always in the magnificent sea anemone (Heteractis magnifica).
