Description

A long, narrow-bodied grouper, greenish to brownish grey covered in small orange-red spots, with several pale lengthwise streaks behind the eye. Its slender shape lets it slip through coral branches to stalk small fish. Juveniles are striped in blue and gold and mimic harmless wrasses, which helps them approach prey. Adults are solitary and favour clear, coral-rich lagoon and outer reefs.

In the Maldives

Dhivehi name boalha jehi faana (MRS 1997).
