Armitage angelfish

Apolemichthys armitagei

Name as used by FishBase. Eschmeyer's Catalog of Fishes (checked October 2026) does not treat it as a valid species, and it is widely regarded as a natural hybrid of the threespot and yellowtail angelfishes. Kept because FishBase lists it for the Maldives.

Description

A rare, dull yellow angelfish with a black tip to the dorsal fin, reaching about 21 cm. It may be a natural hybrid of the threespot and another angelfish. It lives on seaward reef slopes.

In the Maldives

MRS notes it is much rarer than the threespot angelfish and lacks the black spot behind the eye.
