Description
A dark, oceanic triggerfish with elongate white spots on the lower body that may fade with age, and dark fins. Unlike reef triggerfish it lives in the open sea throughout its life, often in schools around drifting logs and other flotsam, and feeds on zooplankton.
In the Maldives
Dhivehi name oivaali rondu (MRS 1997). MRS notes Maldivian tuna fishermen see it often around floating objects but there is no local market for it, so it is almost never landed.

Dhivehi name source: M.R.S. (1997) Fishes of the Maldives (FAO/BOBP MAG/21) gives 'Oivaali rondu' (Latin form). Thaana from the Dhivehi Wikipedia article 'އޮއިވާލި ރޮނޑު' (derived from the MRS 1997 Dhivehi edition); it matches the Latin form.
