Description

An orange-red grouper with scattered small blue spots, blue lines on the head and six dark blotches along the back that extend down as faint bars. It favours deep walls with caves and dense sponge or soft-coral growth, and often swims upside down under overhangs. It is shy, more active at night in shallow water, and is often attended by cleaner shrimps.

In the Maldives

Dhivehi name landaa faana (MRS 1997).

Sources

Dhivehi name source: FishBase common names (country: Maldives) give 'Landaa faana' (Latin script). Thaana from the Dhivehi Wikipedia article 'ލަނޑާ ފާނަ' (not in the MRS-derived list); it matches the Latin form.
