Description
A fairly elongate, silvery trevally, greyer above, with a distinctive black bar on the rear edge of the cheek and thin white margins to the pelvic and anal fins. It lives singly or in small groups along steep outer reef and lagoon slopes.
In the Maldives
Dhivehi name thimara handhi (MRS 1997). MRS notes that, unlike many look-alike trevallies, its black cheek bar makes it easy to recognise.

Dhivehi name source: M.R.S. (1997) Fishes of the Maldives (FAO/BOBP MAG/21) gives 'Thimara handhi' (Latin form). Thaana from the Dhivehi Wikipedia article 'ތިމަރަ ހަނދި' (derived from the MRS 1997 Dhivehi edition); it matches the Latin form.
