A slender pipefish banded with many narrow red to brownish-red rings, with dark bands on the gill cover and a red and white tail fan. It lives in pairs in caves and crevices, usually swimming upside down along the ceiling.

In the Maldives

Dhivehi name galhi kendi venu bandeyri (MRS 1997). MRS notes it is fairly common in the Maldives but easily missed because it lives in small dark caves.

Sources

Dhivehi name source: M.R.S. (1997) Fishes of the Maldives (FAO/BOBP MAG/21) gives 'Galhi kendi venu bandeyri' (Latin form). Thaana from the Dhivehi Wikipedia article 'ގަޅިކެނޑި ވެނުބަނޑޭރި' (derived from the MRS 1997 Dhivehi edition); it matches the Latin form.
