Description

A bright pink to red deep-water snapper with large eyes and a deeply forked tail whose upper lobe grows into a long streamer in adults. It lives over rocky bottoms on deep slopes, mostly at 90 to 400 m, and feeds on small fish, squid and crustaceans. It is one of the most valued deep-water snappers for its flesh.

In the Maldives

Taken on deep handlines in the Maldivian reef-fish fishery.
