Description
A robust, deep-bodied snapper, deep red to reddish-brown, with dark fins. Juveniles and some adults show two silvery-white spots on the back, which give it its English name. It hunts fish, crustaceans and cephalopods along reef edges, often at night. Large individuals have been associated with ciguatera poisoning in some parts of the Pacific.
In the Maldives
One of the most commonly caught reef fish in the Maldivian night handline fishery and widely eaten locally.
