Description

A slender cardinalfish with five broad black stripes on a white to yellowish body, the dark stripes wider than the pale spaces between them, and light red fins. It rests singly or in pairs under ledges and in crevices on reef flats and shallow lagoon reefs by day, and comes out at night to feed.

In the Maldives

Dhivehi name fulhaarongu boadhi (MRS 1997). MRS notes it closely resembles the broadstriped cardinalfish, in which the pale spaces are wider than the dark stripes.

Sources

Dhivehi name source: M.R.S. (1997) Fishes of the Maldives (FAO/BOBP MAG/21) gives 'Fulhaarongu boadhi' (Latin form). FishBase (country: Maldives) agrees: 'Boadhi'. Thaana from the Dhivehi Wikipedia article 'ފުޅާރޮނގު ބޯދި' (derived from the MRS 1997 Dhivehi edition); it matches the Latin form.
