Description
A bubble coral: by day it is covered in large, smooth, inflated vesicles like soft balloons, usually cream, grey or pale green, that hide the blade-like walls of its skeleton. At night the vesicles shrink and the tentacles come out to feed. It grows in shaded places on reef slopes, walls and in caves.
In the Maldives
Recorded from the Maldives: iNaturalist research-grade observations in the Maldives (n=9); literature records via OBIS (Hexacorallians of the World (Fautin 2013), IndOBIS); SeaLifeBase Maldives checklist.
