Description
A massive Porites that forms large, rounded domes or flattened mounds with a smooth surface of tiny cups, usually cream, yellow, brown or greenish. Big colonies can grow to several metres across and are centuries old; on reef flats they often form flat-topped microatolls. It is one of the most important reef-builders in the Maldives. It is very hard to tell from Porites lobata underwater.
In the Maldives
Recorded from the Maldives: museum specimens (n=4); literature records via OBIS (Hexacorallians of the World (Fautin 2013), IndOBIS).
