Description

A Porites coral: an important reef-builder with tiny, crowded cups and a smooth to finely porous surface. Colonies may be massive boulders, branching fingers, plates or columns. Massive colonies grow slowly and can live for centuries. It is told apart from related species only by close examination of the skeleton.

In the Maldives

Recorded from the Maldives: museum specimens (n=1). Only one kind of evidence was found, so it is listed as possibly present.
